How to build custom cornhole boards – complete video series

In baggo, cornhole, cornhole game, game, games, sports, video on July 24, 2008 at 3:18 am

I have been covering the video series on making custom cornhole boards for a while now.ย  The full series is finally finished and all the videos covering the full construction of a set of custom cornhole boards are here.

In this series of videos they go through basic techniques required to construct a set of custom cornhole boards. Tom, master carpenter, walks the builder through the initial cuts to the finishing touches. So far a number of people have used these videos from YouTube to create sets with success.

Video on building a Cornhole Game board

A really nice video detailing how to build a cornhole (baggo) board set. I have not seen too many videos out there on the subject of cornhole game board construction. The two others I found on YouTube were video of some guys putting together a board, not really instructional. This video is more geared toward demonstrating, DIY style, how it is done.

Cornhole: the Movie – at Sundance

In baggo, cornhole, cornhole game, game, games, sports, video on August 30, 2007 at 5:55 pm

In an effort by an independent filmmaker to push Cornhole national – we get Cornhole: The Movie. This movie is about 4 teens trying to make it to the national championships. I have not seen it yet, it will be ready in Feb, but who knows it could be good. If a bowling movie like Kingpin can make me laugh milk out of my nose than a movie about the Cornhole Game has the potential to suffocate me with laughter.

BTW, they say they are still looking to for extras to play in the movie – so if you want to be a Cornhole star in a movie you can show your family and friends you may want to check that out.

Cornhole Game Rules

In baggo, cornhole, cornhole game, game, games, sports on August 30, 2007 at 2:35 am

There always seems to be a bit of controversy when a good round of the Cornhole Game starts up. Just to clear up any misunderstanding here is the list of rules to follow.

Cornhole Game Bags

There should be a total of 8 bags one set of 4 is one color or pattern and the other set of 4 another.

Cornhole Game Boards

The boards are placed twenty seven feet from one another. The cornhole game board surface should be 2′ x 4′. A 6โ€ hole should be 9โ€ from the back of the board and 12โ€ from the sides.

Scoring

1 point for a bag that is on the board. A bag that goes through the hole is 3 points. Zero points are for bags that are touching the ground. Bags that bounce up onto the board are removed and do not count. When all bags are thrown you add up the total points for each team and the winners take the difference added to their score.

How the Cornhole Game is Played

Partners play from opposite boards. Each team has 4 bags, all of the same color. All bags are on one side for a round. Players, who are on opposing teams but standing on the same side, alternate throwing bags. When all 8 bags are thrown score is tallied. The cornhole game continues until you hit 15 or 21.

I hope this helps ๐Ÿ™‚

Growing in Popularity

The Cornhole Game, Baggo, whatever you want to call it is growing . This game used to be a Midwestern phenomenon. I remember a few years ago heading down to party with friends Cincinatti and playing there for the first time. I had never seen the game before at the time. This summer and every summer since I see more and more people playing in Chicago; where I am from. This summer it seems to have reached a tipping point though. You can feel it in the air. I am now seeing the game in bars as well as at parties and tail gates. The Cornhole Game is not just a Midwest thing anymore. Here is a snippit from a blog I ran across:

โ€œThe attraction of cornhole is that it can be played with one hand, leaving your other hand free for cold beverages, making it especially popular in summer months and for tailgating.

Cornhole has even made it big overseas. A retired handyman in Washington sent a cornhole game to his grandson serving in Iraq. A few weeks later the entire Kirkuk air base in Northern Iraq was playing cornhole.โ€

Full story here.

How cool is that? Admittedly that is not the most representative story in the world – more of just a cool novelty fact. I went over to Google trends to look into the popularity of the game and was definitely able to confirm what I am seeing. The game has spread. I did a comparison of the Cornhole Game against the game of Darts. I figure darts is pretty much everywhere and played by tons of people in bars across the country.

google trends data

In the graphic from Google Trends above I have the cities sorted in order of popularity for Darts. The Cornhole game (in blue) is about a third as popular in the biggest dart cities as darts (in red) itself is. These are cities that probably had not heard of the game until this summer. In the Midwest the Cornhole Game is already far more popular than darts. Over this summer I have run into people from New York, Atlanta, and Texas that are all playing. I am telling you, it is a matter of time before we have a national league )

And I must mention that if you have been wanting to play along but donโ€™t have a Cornhole Game set check out ChiTown Custom Cornhole (Baggo) Sets for really nice boards.
