Peg-leg vs full side piece cornhole boards

What type of cornhole board should you get, or is best to play on? There seem to be two distinct types of cornhole boards being made and played on these days. The peg leg style which uses fold away wooden legs in the back to create the right incline for the board. Which BTW is created by the front of the board rising 2.5 inches and the back rising a foot. The full side piece boards are constructed with solid sides. The following pictures illustrate the concept.

The peg-leg style has one key advantage over the full side piece design. It is more portable. The legs fold up so the boards can easily be placed together for easy carrying. This makes them pretty nice for people that own cars with very limited trunk space or who expect to have to carry the boards by hand for long distances.

The full side piece design comes with it’s own advantages. Full side piece cornhole board design allows for the side pieces to be painted which can look really stunning particularly with custom artwork. Full side piece boards also tend to be more stiff, i.e less bounce which makes for better game play. The biggest advantage of the full side piece boards though is more subtle; it is much easier to get the score right and prevents opportunistic cheating.

The ACA official cornhole game rules state that the only way to get at a bag that has gone in the hole should be through the hole. The reason for this is because you don’t want bags that actually missed the board sliding under it and getting counted as a hole.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both designs. You really have to think about what is important to you and make the right move.

improving your cornhole game graphDo you want to improve your cornhole game? Who does not? This article published at ezine mag has some great techniques for helping you out. Here is a quote.

Now, sometimes you may feel stupid telling someone you are so desperate to play a few rounds of cornhole that [in the absence of finding 4 people to play a proper cornhole game] you want to just play two man. A good way to circumvent this is to convince a friend to do a local bags competition with you. This way you have a good excuse to practice this way often in the name of winning the competition. Face saved and you are getting better.
